Calls grow to bench Michigan QB Underwood after poor outing

Pressure is mounting on Michigan to bench freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood after another poor performance.
Underwood completed 10 of 21 passes for 101 yards with two interceptions against Minnesota. The Wolverines' offence stalled repeatedly.
Analyst Rick Neuheisel said Michigan should make a change. The New York Post framed the situation as an NIL dilemma, noting Underwood's reported $12 million deal makes benching him politically difficult.
Coach Kyle Whittingham defended his quarterback after the game. He said young players need time and pointed to the play around Underwood.
But Michigan's schedule is unforgiving. The Wolverines cannot afford many more offensive no-shows if they want to contend.
The debate will rage all week. For now, Whittingham is standing by his freshman, but patience is wearing thin.
Michigan's next game is a must-win for its playoff hopes. Another quiet day from Underwood would make the calls for a change almost impossible to resist.
