Travis Kelce has fired a warning at the rest of the NFL: the Kansas City Chiefs are only getting started. The tight end’s message came after the Chiefs opened the 2026 season with four straight wins, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes once again looking like the league’s most dangerous player.

Kansas City blew out the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and then survived tight contests against the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders. In the Week 4 win over the Raiders, Mahomes threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Kenneth Walker III piled up 177 rushing yards and two scores on 22 carries.

“Just the beginning!!”

On his Instagram stories, Kelce reposted a photo by wide receiver Xavier Worthy showing himself with Mahomes and Worthy on the field, adding a three-word warning to the league: “Just the beginning!!”

The confidence is understandable. After a miserable 6-11 campaign in 2025, the franchise retooled around its stars. Mahomes is fully fit again after last season’s injury setbacks, and Walker has given the offence a new dimension as a lead back, forcing defences to respect the run instead of dropping two safeties deep against the pass.

A personal turnaround

The comeback is also personal. Mahomes missed the end of last season with a serious knee injury, and Kelce spent training camp praising his preparation, saying the quarterback was “playing his tail off” and leading the team. The 36-year-old tight end, now in his 14th season, said before the season that getting Mahomes back had wiped the slate clean and that “every year there’s a chance to do something special”.

What next for Kansas City

The Chiefs are not perfect — the defence ranks 12th overall, though the rush defence sits fifth in the league — but the 4-0 record puts them firmly in control of the early-season race. Kansas City is on a bye in Week 5 before returning in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers. If Mahomes and Walker keep producing at this rate, Kelce’s warning may prove prophetic.
