Jay Shah Lauds Japan for Cricket’s New Chapter

ICC chairman Jay Shah on Saturday congratulated Team India on defending the Asian Games gold medal in men’s cricket and lauded Japan for writing a “proud new chapter” in the sport’s history.
“Nagoya and Japan have written a proud new chapter in cricket’s history. Congratulations to Team India @BCCI on a campaign worthy of this moment,” Shah posted on X after India’s win.
India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the final at Nisshin on Saturday. The Men in Blue posted 211 for 4, powered by Abhishek Sharma’s 61 off 28 balls and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 51 off 22. Pakistan were restricted to 192 for 6 despite Hasan Nawaz’s 96 off 51 balls.
Shah, who presented the gold medals to the Shreyas Iyer-led side, also thanked every competing nation, the Olympic Council of Asia and the organisers “whose vision brought us here.”
It is India’s second consecutive Asian Games gold in men’s cricket, continuing the team’s golden run in T20Is this year after their second straight ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. The Indian women’s team also retained its gold earlier in the Games.
