Ireland-Israel press call ends in chaos

Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson’s pre-match press conference ahead of the Nations League clash with Israel ended abruptly on Saturday after an Israeli journalist accused Irish players of racist remarks.
FAI communications manager Kieran Crowley repeatedly denied the claim, saying it was completely untrue and a lie, before ending the press conference. UEFA barred two Israeli reporters from the match in Serbia after the scenes.
The flashpoint capped a tense window. Ireland won the first leg 3-0 in Debrecen, Hungary, after players voted on whether to play at all. They wore black armbands and refused to shake Israeli players’ hands in protest.
An Israeli player was also accused of spitting at an Irish staff member during the second leg. Hallgrimsson confirmed the allegation but said it would go no further, adding that his players handled their emotions well.
Asked if Ireland should ever face Israel again, Hallgrimsson said plainly: no. He added that the decision was UEFA’s. Ireland’s internal review into alleged abuse of Adam Idah by fans continues.
