Women’s hockey ends 44-year wait for Asian Games gold

The Indian women's hockey team won the Asian Games gold medal, beating defending champions China 1-0 in the final for the country's first women's hockey gold in 44 years.
Lalremsiami scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute. It was India's first women's hockey gold at the Asian Games since 1982. The victory also secured the team's qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The triumph came a day before the men's team beat Malaysia 5-1 to retain their title. It was the first time both Indian hockey teams finished on top of the podium at the same Asian Games.
India's women's team had waited more than four decades for this moment, with several near-misses in past editions. The gold caps a strong year for Indian women's sport, coming weeks after the women's cricket team won the World Cup at home. Hockey India officials praised the team's discipline and said the win would inspire a new generation of players across the country.
