India women win first-ever Asian Games golf team silver

India won its first-ever medal in the women’s team golf event at the Asian Games on Saturday. The team of Pranavi Urs, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar took silver behind China.
India finished the team event at 14-under 546. The best two scores from the three golfers counted towards the final total. China won gold at 22-under 538.
Aditi Ashok fired a 67 in the final round while Diksha Dagar carded 77. Pranavi’s individual gold-winning form proved crucial to the team’s medal.
The silver is a landmark for Indian women’s golf. It comes on the same day Pranavi became the first Indian woman to win the individual gold.
Former cricketer Kapil Dev, who heads the Professional Golf Tour of India, praised the team. He called the medals a reflection of the talent and hard work of the players.
China’s Yin Ruoning won the silver-medal play-off at the first extra hole, beating Singapore’s Shannon Tan. Tan became the first Singapore golfer to win an Asian Games medal. India had never won a women’s team golf medal before. The team event counts the best two scores of the three players.
