India will play Sri Lanka in the men’s cricket semifinal at the Asian Games 2026 on October 1 after rain washed out three straight quarterfinals in Japan.

India’s quarterfinal against Afghanistan in Nisshin was abandoned without a ball bowled, with the call coming 16 minutes before the scheduled toss. Under tournament rules, the higher-seeded side progresses, sending India through as the better-ranked team.

Sri Lanka reached the last four the same way after their quarterfinal against Nepal was also washed out. The semifinal will be played at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.

If the semifinal is also rained out, the higher-ranked sides go through, which would set up an India-Pakistan final. Should the final itself be washed out on October 3, the teams will share the gold medal under the new rules. India won the 2023 title in similar circumstances.

India won gold at Hangzhou 2023 after the final against Afghanistan was washed out. Under the old rules the higher-ranked side took the gold; the new shared-gold rule changes that.
