India set for rare six-ODI series in South Africa

India are likely to tour South Africa for a rare six-match ODI series before the 2027 World Cup, according to a report in The Indian Express.

The matches are expected to be played in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Centurion. Neither board has confirmed dates or venues yet.

The Indian team management had asked the BCCI to arrange preparatory games on South African soil. The series would let the squad adjust to local pitches and bounce before the tournament.

India last played a six-match ODI series in South Africa in 2018. The visitors won 5-1, with Virat Kohli scoring 558 runs at an average of 186. Kuldeep Yadav took 17 wickets and Yuzvendra Chahal took 16.

India last played any ODI series in South Africa in December 2023, winning 2-1.

India’s confirmed buildup also includes five ODIs in New Zealand in November 2026, three against Sri Lanka in December, three against Zimbabwe in January 2027, and the 2027 Asia Cup in June-July.
