India beat Pakistan to complete Asian Games cricket double

Nisshin, October 6: India completed a golden double in Asian Games cricket. The men's team beat arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs in the final on Saturday.

India posted 211 for 6, the highest total of the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Abhishek Sharma smashed 61 off 28 balls with seven sixes. Tilak Varma finished unbeaten on 51 off 22 balls.

Pakistan finished on 192 for 6 despite Hasan Nawaz's defiant 96 off 51 balls. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar took two wickets each. India chose to bat at the Korogi Sports Park.

India's women had won gold earlier, beating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final on September 22. Sri Lanka took the men's bronze by beating Bangladesh.

This is back-to-back men's gold for India. They won their first title in Hangzhou three years ago. The final was played on a converted baseball field in Japan, two years before cricket returns to the Olympics.

South Korea's Tom Kim also won golf gold, earning an exemption from compulsory military service.
