Mumbai, October 6: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has questioned how celebrities reacted to an alleged AI-morphed video of actor Janhvi Kapoor that surfaced online.

The objectionable video used footage from the song "Chuttamalle" from her Telugu debut film Devara: Part 1. Several celebrities, including Janhvi, Jr NTR and Vijay Deverakonda, reacted to it.

In a post on X, RGV wrote that the celebrities' reactions may have led more people to see the content. "The only thing all the celebrities succeeded in is to publicise and thereby make crores and crores of people see the objectionable link," he wrote.

He added that the smart thing would have been to focus on catching the perpetrator and publicise that instead. He said bringing enormous attention to the victim's identity and the offensive content "is also a crime."

Jr NTR had earlier condemned the video, calling its creation using AI "disgusting, sick and shameless." He warned that legal action would be taken against those responsible.
