Harmanpreet Kaur steps down as India women’s captain in all formats

World Cup-winning skipper Harmanpreet Kaur announced on Tuesday that she is stepping down as captain of the Indian women’s cricket team across all formats. The 37-year-old said she wants to continue playing, but as a batter.
“Today, I step down as captain of the Indian women’s cricket team across all formats,” Kaur wrote on social media. “This is not an easy decision. It carries years of memories, emotions, sacrifices, and moments that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
Kaur led India in five Tests, 51 one-day internationals and 155 Twenty20 internationals. Under her, India won their first 50-over World Cup on home soil last year. She also led the side to two T20 Asia Cup titles and two Asian Games gold medals, most recently last month.
She is this year’s highest-capped player in women’s international cricket. Kaur’s decision came a day after she met BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia to discuss the future of the women’s team.
