Gill’s 223 Powers India to Record 406-Run Chase Against West Indies

Shubman Gill produced the fastest double century in ODI history as India chased down 406 against the West Indies to seal the series 2-0 in Guwahati on Wednesday.
India finished on 406 for two in 43.3 overs, winning by eight wickets with 39 balls to spare. It was India’s highest successful chase in men’s ODIs and the second-highest ever, behind South Africa’s 438 against Australia in 2006.
Gill remained unbeaten on 223 off 133 balls, hitting 26 fours and eight sixes. He reached his double century in just 117 deliveries, beating Ishan Kishan’s record of 126 balls. He became only the second batter after Rohit Sharma to score multiple ODI double centuries.
Rohit smashed 101 off 75 balls in a 255-run opening stand and crossed 12,000 ODI runs during his 35th ODI century. Virat Kohli made 29 and Ruturaj Gaikwad finished unbeaten on 31.
West Indies had posted 405 for seven, their highest ODI total, with centuries from John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114). It was the first time three West Indies batters scored hundreds in one ODI innings.
Kuldeep Yadav took 2 for 65 and became the second-quickest Indian to 200 ODI wickets.
