Lovlina Borgohain Wins Asian Games Boxing Gold 5-0

India’s Lovlina Borgohain won gold in the women’s 75kg boxing final at the Asian Games in Nagoya on Friday, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi 5-0 by unanimous decision.
Leading 20-18 late in the bout, Lovlina managed the final round smartly to seal India’s gold medal. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist had earlier stunned the reigning world champion to reach the final.
She becomes only the second Indian woman to win Asian Games boxing gold, after Mary Kom achieved the feat in 2014. It is a historic achievement for Indian boxing.
The win added to India’s medal tally on Day 14 of the Games in Aichi-Nagoya. Earlier in the day, Nethra Kumanan won bronze in women’s sailing dinghy, India’s third sailing medal.
Lovlina’s gold came against China, the country that has denied several Indian boxers gold this week. With Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal also fighting for gold on Friday, India’s boxing campaign at the Games ended its run on a high note.
