Bruno stars with two assists as Portugal sink Denmark 4-2

Bruno Fernandes wore the captain’s armband and ran the show as Portugal beat Denmark 4-2 in the Nations League in Copenhagen on Thursday.
With Cristiano Ronaldo absent after his fallout with coach Jorge Jesus, Fernandes stepped up. He finished with two assists and five key passes in 89 minutes, completing 88% of his passes.
His first assist released Goncalo Ramos to restore Portugal’s lead. After Rasmus Hojlund levelled for Denmark, Fernandes crossed for Vitinha’s header. Joao Cancelo and substitute Joao Felix scored the other goals.
The win keeps Portugal perfect in the Nations League with three wins from three. They are the defending champions and are chasing a record third title.
United fans will hope Fernandes carries this form back to club football after the international break. Portugal face Norway again on Sunday in Porto.
The performance came days after Ronaldo’s camp exit, which had split Portuguese fans. Bruno later said Ronaldo deserves the respect of all Portuguese people. Portugal’s squad looks settled ahead of Sunday’s rematch with Norway, and the captain’s armband may stay with Bruno.
