India’s Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh settled for silver medals in squash singles at the Asian Games on Saturday after losing their finals to Malaysian opponents.

Abhay went down 0-3 to Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow in the men’s final, losing 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 in a match where the Malaysian pulled away after a tight opening game.

In the women’s final, Anahat lost 0-3 to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam, ending her impressive run at the Games with a silver.

There was consolation in the mixed doubles, where Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar won bronze, Joshna’s sixth Asian Games medal, after losing their semifinal to Hong Kong’s Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong.

The results added three more medals to India’s squash collection at the Games, with the players earning praise for their performances against strong fields.

India has emerged as a squash power in Asia in recent years, regularly challenging Malaysia and Hong Kong for top honours. The country’s players have credited improved coaching and international exposure for the steady rise in results.
