UPSC completes 100 years; PM releases stamp, coin, book

The Union Public Service Commission completed 100 years on October 1, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi marking the centenary at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
At the ceremony, the Prime Minister released a UPSC Centenary Commemorative Coin, a commemorative postage stamp, and a book titled '100 Landmark Judgements – Shaping the Policies of UPSC and Public Service Commissions in India'. The event marked the culmination of year-long celebrations that began on October 1, 2025.
The UPSC was established in 1926 as the Public Service Commission and gained constitutional status in 1950. The centenary programme was a two-day affair held on September 30 and October 1, featuring 'Shatabdi Samaroh – Manthan' with addresses by eminent speakers and panel discussions on civil services and public administration.
Participants included chairmen and members of state public service commissions, senior government officers, academicians and UPSC officials from across the country.
UPSC chairman Ajay Kumar used the event to push exam reform that prioritises reasoning and judgment under ambiguity over rote recall. The commission also pointed to steps already taken, including digital e-admit cards, a Universal Registration Number introduced in 2025, and AI-enabled facial authentication piloted in 2025 and scaled for the 2026 preliminary examination.
In the Civil Services Examination 2025, 299 women were among the 958 recommended candidates.
