CBI Summons Punjab CM’s Aide in Corruption Probe

The Central Bureau of Investigation has summoned Rajbir Singh Ghuman, Officer on Special Duty to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, for questioning. He was asked to appear at the agency’s Chandigarh office on October 7.
The summons came a day after the CBI registered an FIR against Ghuman and five others. The agency also searched eight locations across Chandigarh and Punjab. These included the Chief Minister’s camp office in Sector 2, Chandigarh, and premises in Sangrur and Mohali. Officials seized laptops, mobile phones, and documents.
The case follows an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on October 5. The court directed the CBI to probe allegations flagged by the Enforcement Directorate. The charges relate to alleged irregularities in transfers and postings of IAS and IPS officers, tenders, licences, and land matters. The CBI must file its report within two months.
The Punjab government has moved the Supreme Court against the order. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declined an urgent same-day hearing. Mann has rejected the charges and accused the Centre of misusing central agencies for political ends.
