India and Switzerland have signed a migration and mobility partnership agreement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Guy Parmelin sealed the pact in New Delhi on October 5. Parmelin is on a three-day state visit to India. It is his first state visit to the country and his second trip this year. The two sides signed six agreements in total. The migration pact offers multiple-entry visas valid up to five years. It also includes renewable one-year student permits. A separate young professionals agreement allows an annual exchange of 300 young professionals per country. The number can go up to 500. The leaders set a target of 100 billion dollars in Swiss investment in India. Modi said this could create one million direct jobs over 15 years. The countries will deepen ties in trade, defence, nuclear energy and technology. More than 330 Swiss companies operate in India. The India-EFTA trade pact is marking its first anniversary. It covers Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The two leaders also discussed Ukraine and West Asia. Modi said both sides support meaningful peace initiatives.
