Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has raised India's concerns over the US Russia sanctions law, SRIA, with American lawmakers during his visit to the United States. The issue figured in his meetings with members of Congress.

The law, aimed at countries buying Russian oil and arms, has worried New Delhi because of India's long-standing energy and defence ties with Russia. India has been pressing Washington to keep its strategic interests in mind.

Misri's visit comes at a busy time for India-US ties. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is in the US from 29 September to 5 October for trade talks, and a meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is expected to focus on an interim trade deal.

A G20 trade ministers' meeting is also scheduled for 30 September to 1 October. Both sides are working to steady the relationship after months of tension over tariffs and sanctions policy. Officials on both sides have described the current round of talks as a chance to reset the economic agenda after months of friction over tariffs and energy purchases.
