EC Extends Voter Roll Revision Deadlines in Two States

The Election Commission of India has extended the Special Intensive Revision schedule in two states. In Andhra Pradesh, claims and objections will now be settled by October 10. The final voter roll will be published on October 16.

In Meghalaya, the final electoral roll will come out on October 26. The decision was taken at a full Commission meeting on September 30.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar attended with Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. In Andhra Pradesh, the final list was earlier due on October 9. The notice phase began on July 31.

In Meghalaya, the draft roll was published on August 5. The claims period had ended on September 18. The extension follows requests from political parties and officials. Unresolved applications under Forms 6, 7 and 8 are among the pending items.

The Commission said the extra time will ensure no eligible voter is left out. The extension came days after schedules were deferred in several other states.
