ECI rejects Opposition MPs’ Parliament Annexe meeting demand

The Election Commission of India has said the Opposition's demand for a meeting with a delegation of MPs at the Parliament House Annexe "could not be accepted". The poll panel called the proposed venue and the manner of the request "unusual" and against its established protocol.
In a statement issued on October 6, the ECI said no political party had sought an appointment with the Commission until 4 pm. At around 4 pm, Delhi Police informed the panel that a delegation of about 240 MPs, led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, wanted to meet the Election Commissioners at the Annexe.
The Commission said it considered sending its most senior executive officer to the venue to receive the Opposition's memorandum, but the offer was rejected by the MPs.
The statement came after INDIA bloc leaders marched towards Nirvachan Sadan to protest against the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The ECI said its protocol for meetings with political parties was laid down in 2025 and communicated to all parties. The Opposition has alleged "vote theft" and demanded the cancellation of the revision exercise.
