Arizona candidate says she was assaulted fixing campaign signs

Democratic congressional candidate Bernadette Greene-Placentia has said she was sexually assaulted while fixing campaign signs in the early hours of August 14 in Sun City, Arizona.
Greene-Placentia, who is challenging Republican Representative Abe Hamadeh in the November 3 election for Arizona’s 8th district, said the attack happened around 2 am in a parking lot near 99th Avenue and Bell Road. She said she was embarrassed and told her staff only days later.
She reported the incident to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on August 31. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
The Phoenix New Times first reported the allegation on October 7. Greene-Placentia said her attacker used an anti-Democratic slur during the assault.
Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego and Representative Greg Stanton were among the Democrats who condemned the attack. Hamadeh’s campaign has not been accused of any involvement. Greene-Placentia, a former state representative, said she was determined to continue her campaign.
