US natural gas output hits record 137 Bcf per day

US natural gas production hit a record 137 billion cubic feet per day in July 2026, the Energy Information Administration said in its Natural Gas Monthly report.
It was the first monthly production record of 2026 after five records in 2025. Output from Texas and New Mexico rose by 1.7 billion cubic feet per day, the biggest gain of any region. Louisiana, Oklahoma and North Dakota also posted small increases.
The growth was helped by the Hugh Brinson Pipeline, which eased takeaway bottlenecks in the Permian Basin. New pipeline capacity has allowed producers to move more gas to markets and export terminals.
Record output comes as the US expands its liquefied natural gas exports. Strong global demand, especially from Europe and Asia, has kept prices firm enough to support drilling.
The EIA said gross withdrawals have now set records in six of the last eight months of available data. The agency expects production to keep growing through the rest of the year.
