ArcelorMittal plans over R$10 billion Brazil investment

ArcelorMittal is planning a new investment cycle of more than R$10 billion in Brazil, the company’s country head told Folha de S.Paulo.

The plan includes a R$4-5 billion expansion at the Tubarão plant, adding a cold strip mill and coating line. Another R$5 billion is earmarked for a new hot-rolled steel line at Pecém. A final investment decision is expected by the end of 2026, Bloomberg reported.

The investments come as Brazil’s steel industry gains protection from Chinese imports. China’s share of Brazilian steel imports has fallen from 25 per cent to 16 per cent after trade measures, according to the company.

Brazil is ArcelorMittal’s second-largest market. The country contributed about $3.15 billion in revenue in the second quarter of 2026. The new investments would be the company’s largest in Brazil in years.

The plan underlines the global steel industry’s shift toward regional supply chains. With trade tensions rising, steelmakers are investing closer to their key customers.
