Sensex Jumps 800 Points, Nifty Nears 22,500 After Selloff

Indian stock markets bounced back strongly on Friday, October 9. The Sensex rose 786 points to 72,379 by mid-morning. The Nifty 50 gained 258 points to 22,489. Every sector traded in the green. The Nifty IT index led with a 3.5 per cent jump.
The rebound followed a sharp selloff on Thursday. The Sensex had hit a 32-month low. The Nifty had fallen to an 18-month low. Analysts said oversold conditions triggered the technical bounce.
Foreign investors sold shares worth Rs 12,944 crore on Thursday. It was their biggest single-day sale since May 29, 2026. Domestic institutions bought Rs 10,703 crore, cushioning the fall.
Gains could be capped. Brent crude hovered near $104 a barrel. The rupee stayed weak. Global bond yields were high.
IT stocks stayed under pressure. TCS reported its weakest September-quarter revenue growth in three years. The US has also suspended major outsourcing firms from a key green-card programme.
GIFT Nifty futures pointed to a positive start in early trade. They were at 22,379.50 at 7:41 am IST. Analysts said the oversold market raised the chance of a near-term technical bounce. But they warned that crude prices and foreign outflows could cap gains.
