Nifty Logs Eighth Straight Weekly Loss, Longest Since 2001

The Nifty 50 closed the week 0.88 per cent lower at 22,421.95, extending its decline to eight straight weeks, the longest losing streak since 2001.
The Sensex fell 570.59 points to settle at 71,909.70, a 2026 closing low. Foreign investors sold Indian shares worth about Rs 10,148 crore on October 1 alone, the week's largest single-day outflow.
The selloff has been driven by US Treasury yields above 5.3 per cent, Brent crude above $100 a barrel, and sustained foreign selling. The Nifty has dropped 2.3 per cent this week alone.
Indian markets were closed on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti. Investors now watch two key domestic events: the RBI's policy decision and the GST Council meeting on October 7.
Analysts see immediate support for the Sensex at 71,000-71,200 and resistance at 72,300-72,500, with a relief rally possible but the broader trend still weak. Earnings season and the US jobs report will now decide whether the losing streak stretches further.
