Markets slide for seventh straight week

Indian equities fell for a seventh consecutive week, the longest losing streak since 2020, as elevated crude prices and rising US bond yields kept investors on edge.
The Nifty 50 closed the week at 23,140.50, down 0.88 per cent, while the Sensex settled at 73,895.74, down 0.53 per cent. Both bounced on Friday after a sharp Thursday sell-off of more than 1.6 per cent, but the rebound was not enough to break the streak.
Brent crude stayed above $105 a barrel, raising fears of higher inflation and a wider import bill for India. The US 10-year Treasury yield crossed 5.10 per cent, drawing foreign investors toward safer assets and deepening selling of Indian shares.
Analysts see 23,000 as immediate support for the Nifty, with 23,200 as resistance. Investors now watch crude prices, US-Iran diplomacy and the RBI's October policy meeting for direction. Higher oil and yields would widen India's import bill, pressure the rupee and squeeze corporate margins.
