Nifty slides to 22,340 as FPIs dump Rs 10,148 crore

Indian markets extended their losing streak on September 30, with the Nifty plunging to 22,340 as foreign investors dumped shares worth Rs 10,148 crore in a single session.
Foreign portfolio investors pulled out Rs 51,999 crore from Indian equities in September, marking an eight-week losing run for the benchmark index. Domestic institutions bought Rs 11,272 crore on September 30, cushioning the fall.
Samco Securities said FPI short positions in index futures stood at a heavy 1.76 lakh contracts, signalling continued bearish bets. Analysts blamed global risk-off sentiment, a strong dollar and concerns over valuations.
The selloff has hit large-cap stocks across sectors, with banking and IT among the worst affected. Mid and small caps have also come under pressure.
Market watchers said the next triggers will be corporate earnings, global central bank moves and the progress of monsoon. For now, the mood remains cautious, with traders advising investors to wait for clearer signals before buying.
