Gold, silver prices fall sharply in India

Gold and silver prices fell sharply in Indian markets on Monday as investors booked profits and global cues turned weak.
The correction came after a strong run-up in precious metals earlier in the month. Traders said the fall was driven by a stronger dollar, easing geopolitical premiums and selling in international markets.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, both metals saw heavy selling pressure during the session. Jewellers reported that footfall picked up as prices cooled, with some buyers seeing the dip as a buying opportunity ahead of the festive season.
Analysts said the broader trend for gold remains supported by central-bank buying and uncertainty over the global economy. But in the short term, prices could stay volatile as markets react to US economic data and the path of interest rates.
Silver, which often moves more sharply than gold, saw steeper percentage losses. Market watchers advised retail investors to avoid panic selling and to treat corrections as part of the normal cycle.
With the wedding and festival season approaching, jewellers expect demand to steady prices in the coming weeks.
