Delhi ACP’s Addl DCP Charge Withheld Amid Harassment Inquiry

The Delhi government has withheld the additional DCP charge for ACP Vivek Bhagat amid a sexual harassment inquiry. Bhagat had himself requested to step aside until the inquiry ends. The October 5 order naming 12 officers will be reissued for the remaining 11.
Three women journalists accused police officers of sexual harassment during anti-CEC protests at Jantar Mantar on October 3. One journalist alleged Bhagat touched her inappropriately and pushed her while she filmed detentions. The complaints were transferred to the Crime Branch for an impartial inquiry. No FIR has been registered yet.
The government said the proposal for the additional charge began on August 25, before the allegations surfaced. It stressed the charge was an interim administrative measure, not a regular promotion.
In a related move, Delhi Police arrested a man for creating an AI-generated poster targeting Bhagat. The poster was circulated on social media. Separately, Delhi Police is equipping frontline personnel with body cameras to improve transparency during protests.
