Vande Bharat crosses Chenab bridge at 100 kmph first time

A Vande Bharat Express crossed the Chenab and Anji Khad railway bridges at 100 kmph on October 2. It was the first time a train ran over both structures at that speed. The run followed a rise in the maximum permissible speed on the 111-km Katra-Banihal section.
The limit was raised from 75 kmph to 100 kmph. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the run on X. He wrote, 100 km per hour over India’s engineering pride.
The Chenab Railway Bridge stands 359 metres above the riverbed. It is the world’s highest railway arch bridge. The 1,315-metre structure can withstand winds up to 260 kmph.
The Anji Khad Bridge is India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. It rises 331 metres above the riverbed. Both bridges are part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link.
The link connects the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India’s rail network. Officials said the higher speed will cut journey times on the section. It is expected to make operations smoother for passengers.
