SIT probe in Ram Mandir donation row widened, VHP chief says

Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Alok Kumar said on Sunday that the Special Investigation Team’s probe into alleged financial irregularities in Ram Mandir donations has been expanded, according to the Indian Express.
The SIT has filed a 105-page chargesheet in the case, according to VHP leader Surendra Jain. The probe team was reconstituted on the Supreme Court’s orders and is led by Inspector General of Police Kiran S, with Ayodhya DIG Somen Verma and SSP Gaurav Grover as members.
An Ayodhya court has remanded all eight accused in the alleged donation scam to 14 days of judicial custody. The SIT has been granted a 15-day extension to finish its investigation.
Alok Kumar said the preliminary findings appear to justify registering an FIR and holding a fast-track trial. He said CCTV footage allegedly captured the people involved in the misappropriation.
The Congress’s Tariq Anwar demanded a committee headed by a Supreme Court judge, while BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo said the thefts were real but minor in scale. The matter will now be decided in court.
