Manas National Park Reopens for Tourist Season

Assam’s Manas National Park reopened to tourists on October 2. The move marks the start of the 2026-27 tourism season after the annual monsoon closure.
Manas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Tiger Reserve and a Biosphere Reserve. A special programme was held at the park’s second main entrance.
The park closed during the monsoon to let the ecosystem recover. Safari trails and forest roads are now open to visitors again.
Different ranges will observe weekly closures. Bhuyanpara shuts on Thursdays, Bansbari on Tuesdays, Panbari on Fridays and Kuklung on Wednesdays.
Tourist numbers are rising fast. The park recorded 63,723 visitors in 2025-26, up from 52,962 in 2021-22. Foreign visitors jumped from 45 to 4,951.
Manas is home to tigers, elephants, one-horned rhinos and over 500 bird species. Officials expect a strong season ahead.
The park is home to the Bengal tiger, Asian elephant and greater one-horned rhinoceros. Rare species include the golden langur, clouded leopard and pygmy hog. Its rivers even host the Gangetic dolphin.
