Kerala, Tamil Nadu on heavy-rain alert; fishermen warned

The IMD has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal through Tuesday, with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
In Kerala, districts including Ernakulam and Kottayam are on alert. Fishermen have been urged to exercise caution along the coast as seas turn rough.
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are set for heavy rain spells, with the weather office flagging thunderstorm cells building through the afternoon and evening.
Between October 4 and 6, heavy rain may occur at some places in Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Rainfall activity may increase further across south India in the coming days.
The rain comes as the southwest monsoon lingers over peninsular India longer than usual. The northeast monsoon is expected to take over soon after its delayed withdrawal.
Commuters have been advised to track district-wise nowcasts before heading out, and to plan outdoor activity around unstable skies.
