Iran has completed laying railway tracks on the Chabahar-Zahedan line, a key link for India’s access to Central Asia. The project connects the Iranian port city of Chabahar to Zahedan near the Afghan border.

India has a major stake in the Chabahar port. The rail link will let goods move from the port into Iran’s rail network and onward to Central Asia and Afghanistan.

Officials said train services have not started yet. Commissioning is targeted around January 2027, after signalling and safety work is finished.

The line is part of the International North-South Transport Corridor. It gives India an alternative trade route that bypasses Pakistan.

India has invested in Chabahar to boost trade with landlocked Central Asia. Officials say the rail link will cut transport time and costs once it opens for freight. Trade experts say the corridor could open new markets for Indian goods in the region. The project has seen delays, but both sides say it is now moving toward completion.
