India is attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's National Coordinators meeting in Islamabad this week, with the delegation led by Alok Dimri, a joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs handling multilateral and economic relations. The three-day meeting, which began on September 29, is the first major SCO gathering under Pakistan's 2026-27 chairmanship and is preparing the ground for the SCO Summit that Pakistan will host in August 2027.

The visit is the first by an Indian official delegation to Pakistan since Operation Sindoor last year, and it follows sharp exchanges between the two countries at the UN General Assembly over terrorism and Kashmir. Officials have stressed that the meeting is a multilateral institutional engagement rather than a bilateral dialogue.

Pakistan has framed its chairmanship around the theme 'Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity'. The coordinators are fixing the calendar of ministerial meetings and working groups for the chairmanship year, with the agenda kept clear of bilateral disputes in line with the SCO charter. India remains an active participant in the grouping's mechanisms despite frozen bilateral ties.
