The opposition INDIA bloc will meet on September 30 to discuss its stand-off with the Election Commission, with the voter-roll revision issue topping the agenda.

Reports said the meeting was convened after Mamata Banerjee spoke to Rahul Gandhi, as parties push back against the poll body’s special intensive revision exercise. The bloc has accused the EC of acting at the ruling party’s behest, a charge the commission rejects.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is reportedly likely to skip the meeting, though senior SP leaders may attend, according to reports. The line-up is still being finalised.

The opposition argues the revision risks disenfranchising genuine voters. The EC maintains it is a routine clean-up of electoral rolls.

With state polls approaching, the meeting is expected to firm up a joint strategy, including possible legal and street-level action. The outcome will signal how united the bloc remains on the issue. The bloc’s coordination committee is expected to brief the media after the meeting.
