The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation have signed a memorandum of understanding to share unit-wise Udyam Registration data through two-way APIs, aimed at strengthening the country’s business statistics ecosystem.

The MoU was signed in New Delhi on September 29 by Dr Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (MSME), and Dr Dalip Singh, Additional Director General of MoSPI.

The pact will feed into the Statistical Business Register and help build the National Statistical Business Register, a foundational dataset for economic statistics. It is expected to improve the quality of data on the MSME sector, which employs crores of people across the country.

Officials said the data-sharing arrangement marks a step toward evidence-based policymaking, giving the government a clearer picture of enterprise activity.

The move aligns with the broader push to digitise governance and make administrative data work harder for national statistics.
