Delhi: Barapullah phase-3 row leaves commuters stuck

The Centre’s approval of the Barapullah elevated corridor’s third phase has triggered a fresh political row in Delhi, with the BJP and AAP trading blame over years of delay. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs cleared the project on Wednesday.
Delhi BJP leaders called the approval a “milestone” and accused the previous AAP government of stalling the corridor, which is meant to ease traffic between east and south Delhi. Party chief Virendra Sachdeva welcomed the decision.
The AAP hit back, accusing the Centre of “stepchild treatment” of Delhi and saying the project was delayed because central clearances never came on time.
Commuters, meanwhile, continue to suffer long jams on the existing stretch. The third phase is expected to cut travel time across the Yamuna floodplains, but no completion timeline has been announced yet.
The Barapullah corridor was first built ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Its third phase would extend the corridor further, cutting cross-city trips that now take over an hour in peak traffic.
