EU launches first cardiovascular screening week from September 28

The European Commission has launched the first EU Screening Week, running from September 28 to October 4, urging citizens to “know your vital numbers”. The week promotes checks for blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar — key indicators of cardiovascular health.
Cardiovascular disease remains one of Europe’s biggest killers, and early detection through simple screenings can prevent serious illness and save lives. The Commission is encouraging member states, health providers and community organisations to organise screening events and raise awareness during the week.
Citizens are advised to visit their doctor or local health service for the checks, which take only a few minutes. The initiative marks the first time the EU has dedicated a full week to cardiovascular screening at continental level, signalling a stronger push towards preventive healthcare across Europe. The Commission says knowing these numbers empowers people to have informed conversations with their doctors about heart health and everyday prevention.
