The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of peninsular India on Tuesday, with thunderstorms and lightning likely across eastern states. Delhi and the northern plains are expected to stay largely dry with clear skies.

Southern states including coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala may see intense showers as a remnant system from the Bay of Bengal moves inland. The IMD has advised residents in low-lying areas to stay alert for waterlogging.

In the east, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are likely to receive moderate rain with gusty winds, while the northeast could see scattered thunderstorms through the day. Maximum temperatures in the northern plains will hover near seasonal averages.

The department said the southwest monsoon has already withdrawn from most of northwest India, and conditions are turning favourable for further withdrawal in the first week of October. October is expected to begin with below-normal rainfall for the country as a whole.
