IMD: orange alert for heavy rain in UP, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan for October 8 and 9.
Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest rainfall intensity in the last two days, with Kheri district and the Gorakhpur area receiving between 120 mm and 240 mm. One station in UP also recorded extremely heavy rainfall, the IMD said.
In Delhi, moderate rainfall was recorded on October 7, with Safdarjung and Lodhi Road logging 25 mm and Palam 4 mm. The IMD said no significant rainfall is expected in the capital from October 10 onwards, though drizzling or light rain may occur.
The national capital has received rainfall for two consecutive days, bringing down temperatures and improving air quality. Continuous downpour led to waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, and traffic police urged commuters to plan their journeys.
The IMD has also issued alerts for West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to avoid the New Rohtak Road stretch near Anand Parbat due to waterlogging.
