Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has criticised how celebrities reacted to a Janhvi Kapoor deepfake. An AI-morphed video using the song Chuttamalle has been circulating online.

The clip is from Devara: Part 1, which stars Jr NTR and Janhvi. Janhvi, Jr NTR and others condemned the video.

RGV took a different view on X. “The only thing all the celebrities succeeded in, is to publicise the objectionable link,” he wrote.

He said the smart move was to catch the perpetrator. “Instead what they did is to tweet and bring enormous attention to the victim’s identity,” he added.

He also wrote, “When you can’t WIN, you should JOIN. If you fight AI, it will ERASE you out of EXISTENCE.”

Janhvi had penned a note on October 5 condemning the video. Jr NTR called it “disgusting, sick and shameless”. He warned of legal action against those responsible. The row has sparked a wider debate about AI misuse in the film industry.
