Television and digital stars are joining the microdrama wave, with Kusha Kapila, Sheeba Chaddha, Nikki Tamboli and Vishal Aditya Singh coming together for 'Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe'.

Microdramas are short, vertical-format stories made for phone viewing, with episodes lasting just a few minutes. The format has exploded in popularity across Asia.

Kusha Kapila said working with veteran actor Sheeba Chaddha felt like a masterclass. The show's makers are betting that familiar faces will pull mainstream viewers to the format, which has so far relied on new talent.

With big stars now entering the space, microdramas are moving from a niche trend to a serious part of India's entertainment industry, with more celebrity-led projects in the pipeline. More actors are expected to sign similar projects soon.

Platforms making microdramas say production costs are a fraction of TV serials. Advertisers are also showing interest as young viewers spend more time on short video apps.
