Folk-horror Bokshi postponed to Dec 4 after CBFC clears with A

The release of the folk-horror film Bokshi has been postponed to December 4 after the CBFC’s Revising Committee cleared it with an A certificate. The film was earlier scheduled to release on October 9.

The makers said the delay will ensure a seamless theatrical rollout. Directed and produced by Bhargav Saikia, Bokshi stars Prasanna Bisht as Anahita, a troubled teenager whose school trek to a remote prehistoric site leads her towards an ancient legend.

Mansi Multani plays her history teacher Shalini, while Shernaz Patel voices the titular Bokshi. The film was shot over 80 days across Sikkim after nearly three years of research into the region’s folklore.

It premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2025 and has played at Sitges and SXSW Sydney. The multilingual film features Hindi, English, Nepali and Boksirit, a fictional language created for the film.

The postponement gives the film a clearer window, away from the crowded festive releases. Horror has been one of the best-performing genres in Indian cinemas this year, and the makers will hope the festival run builds strong word of mouth.
