RAF Fairford probe: no explosives found, five released on bail

British counter-terrorism police have issued an update on the RAF Fairford investigation, saying no improvised explosive devices were found at the airbase. Petrol was recovered during the searches, police said.
Five men arrested in the probe have been released on strict bail, police said. They remain under investigation as enquiries continue.
The arrests earlier this month had raised alarm over a possible plot targeting the Gloucestershire airbase, which hosts US Air Force operations. One suspect reportedly rang the police on himself before his arrest.
Police stressed that the investigation is ongoing and urged the public not to speculate. Officers are still examining seized material.
The case drew wide attention in the UK given the base’s strategic role. Further updates are expected as the investigation develops. The five men must follow strict conditions while they remain under investigation, police said. Any breach of the bail conditions could lead to re-arrest, legal experts said.
