MoD signs Rs 661.5 crore BrahMos missile contract

The Defence Ministry has signed a 661.5 crore rupee contract with BrahMos Aerospace. The deal was cleared under the Buy Indian-IDDM category.
The contract has 68 percent indigenous content. That means more than two-thirds of the missile system’s value will come from Indian suppliers. The IDDM tag stands for Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured.
BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile developed jointly by India and Russia. It can be launched from land, sea, and air. The missile flies at nearly three times the speed of sound.
The deal supports the government’s push for self-reliance in defence. Indigenous content rules ensure that defence spending builds local industry and jobs.
More orders are expected as the armed forces modernize. The BrahMos system remains one of India’s most important strike weapons. The contract adds to the missile’s growing order book. The missile can strike targets up to 290 kilometres away. Its speed makes it hard for enemy defences to intercept. The armed forces have deployed it across all three services.
