Iran's top navy commander has sent a direct message to Americans, saying US military bases across the region are "illegitimate" and would be closed if a war breaks out. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri made the remarks in an interview with Al Jazeera, according to regional reports.

"We consider the American people a friend, but the American army and Navy an enemy. We do not consider America our enemy," Tangsiri said. He added that Washington's forces "can leave, and we will spare the blood of their soldiers." He warned that if Iran is attacked, it would strike at the enemy's "Achilles' heel."

Tangsiri also warned neighbouring countries against allowing attacks on Iran from their soil, saying he had issued the same warning in 2024. He claimed Iran has so far launched five waves of attacks on the Israeli city of Haifa, striking one target in each wave, and said a new wave is coming soon.

The comments come amid an escalating shadow conflict, with Tangsiri dismissing American claims that Iran's naval capabilities have been destroyed.
