India has successfully tested the Pralay-ER, the extended-range version of its quasi-ballistic surface-to-surface missile, marking another milestone for the country’s indigenous defence programme. The test, conducted from a defence range, validated the system’s performance across its intended flight envelope.

Pralay-ER is designed to strike targets at extended ranges with high accuracy, using advanced guidance systems developed by Indian laboratories. The missile is part of a family of tactical weapons intended to give the armed forces a conventional precision-strike option.

The successful trial adds to a string of recent achievements for the Defence Research and Development Organisation, which has been pushing a series of indigenous missile programmes toward induction. Defence officials said the test met all mission objectives. The system is expected to strengthen deterrence along India’s borders and reduce dependence on imported weaponry, in line with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat push in defence manufacturing. DRDO has been conducting a series of trials this year as part of its push to induct more indigenous systems into the armed forces.
