Das says decade of reforms made India shock-proof

India’s economy has been made resilient to global shocks by a decade of reforms, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Shaktikanta Das said on Sunday. He was speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave in New Delhi.Das said real GDP grew 7.8 percent in the April-June quarter of 2026-27. He said India was within striking distance of 8 percent growth, backed by above-8-percent growth in the four quarters through June.He named flexible inflation targeting, the GST, digital payments and banking reforms as the buffers that helped India absorb shocks from Covid to the Ukraine war and West Asia conflicts.
He said the economy stood out against trade fragmentation and high debt in advanced economies.Looking ahead, Das listed five priorities: artificial intelligence, deeper financial markets, strategic self-reliance, sustainable development and human capital. He said Atmanirbharta means building domestic capacity, not isolation. He also urged cutting dependence on energy imports. Rural demand has strengthened, with higher tractor and two-wheeler sales, and urban consumption stays upbeat, he said.
